Reviews for Makita DVC260Z from Edward H.

A compromise - not usual for Makita, but still good for my needs
I have a fair number of cordless Makita tools and generally consider them as 'no compromise '. For example, their DUC353Z Chain Saw blew me away - I expected it to be just 'good ' - but it is amazing. Eats trees almost as well as my petrol saw. So I bought the DVC260Z Backpack vacuum cleaner expecting the usual Makita quality - solid performance approaching a wired equivalent, and robust design, but it isn 't. However, I 'm still happy with it because (luckily) it meets my requirements, but other buyers should read carefully. Pros: * It is fairly small and easy to carry/wear * It takes the usual Makita batteries * It works fine for light jobs * The hose and wand are lightweight - not heavy so easy to use/transport (but see con below) * It is fairly good value (there are other cordless vacuums on the market, but anything with significantly more 'suck ' is a lot more money) OKs: * The 'suck ' vacuum strength is 'OK ' - not at all bad, but not great. Definitely not as good as most 240v ones, but enough to hoover up light dirt a room using a wand, or suck up small debris from drilling (or attach as a dust extractor for a tool in use). Cons: * Dust bag is fairly small * The hose and 'wand ' are like a kids toy. The hose is smaller gauge than a 'standard ' vacuum and the wand has a smaller head than normal and is really lightweight plastic. Doubt it will stand much abuse. * The 'crevice tool ' is just a cone of rubber - hard to get on to the hose end, and 'grips ' as you it rubs against hard surfaces you are trying to vacuum. Probably hard wearing, but also hard to use. * The controller on a wire is just plain silly. When carrying it you already have 2 backpack straps, 2 waist straps and the hose to wave about. Finding the controller on the wire amongst all that is a pain. I 'd prefer it permanently fixed on the sounder straps (so it is on your chest), or even a waist strap. It has a light on it but I really can 't see that as a big sell. That said, it does what I want (DIY duties/hoovering a small second home), so I am happy.
